Snow removal in the Village of Lake Orion and Orion Township, where island streets, lake lanes and hilly subdivisions each need their own approach.
This is a referral service. In Lake Orion and Orion Township, the plowing, shoveling and salting are done by an independent operator under its own name and insurance.
The village sits on the south shore of Lake Orion, with small older houses on narrow streets and a number of homes on the lake’s islands and points reached by tight, winding lanes. Around it, Orion Township is rolling and wooded, with dozens of smaller lakes and a steady spread of newer subdivisions.
Access is the thing to describe when you call. A lane that serves a few lake homes may be private, too narrow for a full-size truck, or both, and it may need clearing before the driveway can be reached at all. Up in the subdivisions, drives are wider but hills make ice the main winter problem rather than depth.
See private roads and shared drives if your lane is not a public road, and salting and ice control for sloped drives.
Orion Township states the two facts that govern winter here more plainly than anyone else in the county. First: “Townships in Michigan have no jurisdiction over roads.” RCOC maintains all public roads here, subdivision streets included. Second, on the money: RCOC receives no property tax for roads and gets, on average, $2,000 to $3,000 per year per mile of subdivision street in state road funding. And third, on private roads: owners bordering them “are responsible for their maintenance and snow plowing. The Township does not handle private road upkeep.” Lake Orion also sits at the snowier end of the county — forecast 6 to 8 inches in the February 12–13, 2025 storm against 4 to 6 in the south.
